Usually when someone mods a new character into an existing game on PC it’s as a joke. There are almost too many examples to list. Think Kylo Ren in Devil May Cry 5 or Henry Cavill in The Witcher 3 or Shrek and Woody in Sekiro or Keanu Reeves in Metal Gear Solid 5. It’s just too easy to get a laugh with a wacky guest star.
Resident Evil 2, the terrific terrifying remake from early this year, already gave us some of this. By stripping haunting hulking menace Mr. X down to his thong, suddenly the brutal boss went from a fighter to a lover. However, this latest Resident Evil 2 mod, despite featuring a clown, only makes the game even more horrifying. Surviving Raccoon City is that much more impossible when you’re being stalked by none other than Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
Pennywise’s story may have ended (more comedically than expected) in IT: Chapter 2 earlier this month, but you can keep the nightmare going with this mod. It was created by Marcos RC and jc-starstorm and replaces Mr. X with the current incarnation of the killer Stephen King clown. Sorry, Tim Curry. Heck, you can just pretend Mr. X was Pennywise all along, given his shape-shifting abilities.
On Marcos RC’s YouTube page you can find other Resident Evil 2 character mods featuring Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero. Plus for good measure he put C.J. from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (which you can now get for free on PC) into Devil May Cry 5.
